Introduction

As Interior Designers, we play a critical role in communicating the final design to the construction team (builder, electrician, plumber, tiler, carpenter, painter etc). Regular site visits and a detailed set of drawings ensures contractors are given the information they require to accurately quote and build the project.

Our Construction Documentation:

Interior Stories produces several types of drawings to guide the construction and installation of the interior elements in a project. We document in both Italian and English (where required). Our clients can expect the following:

  • Structural Layouts – preferred location of structural elements- beams, columns, doors, walls, room dimensions as co-ordinated with the project Engineer and or Geometra / Architect
  • Floor and Wall Finish Layouts – showing extent, sizing, positioning and ordering details
  • Tile Plans & Elevations showing cut lines, slopes, corner & niche detailing
  • Furniture Arrangement Plans showing sizing & specification
  • Sanitary Plans & Layouts showing placement, finish, sizing & products for any wc, bidet, sink, shower, bath etc
  • Electrical Plans & Elevations showing locations of switches, power points
  • Reflected Ceiling Plans – positions and specification of any lighting, light cove, speaker or other items on the ceiling
  • Furniture drawings for bespoke freestanding or built in items
  • Interior Sections showing any wall panelling, paint finishes, niches or design elements
  • Kitchen cabinetry drawings
  • Radiator & Airconditioning layouts & elevations
  • Finish, Lighting, Product & Furniture schedules with codes and relevant technical details

Collaboration During Construction

It is our job to guide the contractors and other specialists in executing the design, ensuring that everything is built correctly, safely, and in line with the designer’s vision. Prior to Construction this means effectively communicating every detail of the project both through the drawings and a series of meetings on site and telephone.

Once construction begins, we oversee the execution of the interior elements, ensuring that the work aligns with the design vision. We also ensure that the installation of fixtures, furniture, and finishes has been done according to the proposed project.

Coordination with an Architect or Geometra

Not all interior projects require an Architect or Geometra (see below). When a project calls for one, we take pleasure in providing the necessary documentation to ensure the proposed design fits the overall building design whilst meeting safety, code, and regulatory requirements. To understand if your project requires one, get in touch via our contact us page or WhatsApp button.

Material Selection, Samples & Specification

We know materials ! Our selection of finishes for the flooring, walls, ceilings, and furnishings are not only aesthetically fitting but also suitable for the building’s use, climate, and durability needs. Choosing the right material for the right application and client is important. We take into consideration foot traffic, rub counts (upholstery), children or pets and required maintenance.

From there we propose how this finish can be manipulated or applied and installed to create the desired aesthetic. This may be shown to the client through a series of images, photos or visits to the showroom or a physical sample. Once the finish has been approved we then document its location, application and quantity in the drawings for the contractor who then installs it. As nature lovers we favour local environmentally friendly materials and finishes!

Lighting Design & the Electrician

Designers play a big role in planning the lighting, which can affect both the functionality and safety of a space. We work with electricians on & off site to plan the placement and integration of lighting fixtures, ensuring that the electrical infrastructure supports the lighting needs without overloading circuits.

Acoustics & the Termotecnico

We provide input on soundproofing, temperature control & ventilation within the interior spaces. This includes sizing spaces, windows or internal doors for cross ventilation. The Termotecnico is responsible for specifying the required heating and cooling systems. Once the Termotecnico has provided the calculations (Watts) we can assist the client in proposing suitable models of radiators and air conditioning.
