Introduction

At Interior Stories, we believe that every space tells a unique story. Concept Creation is a way into the project. It is the process of understanding each buildings history, its owners, location and materials to influence and inspire an overarching idea for the proposed design. It is the vision, big idea and reference point for all future decisions on the project. The designer formulates this concept into a brief statement along with a series of images and mood boards to express the idea.

Our Concept Design Package

Clients of Interior Stories can expect to see the following during the Concept Design Phase:

  1. Mood Boards: Visual representations of the intended atmosphere, using colors, textures, materials, and imagery to communicate the feeling or “vibe” of the space.
  2. Space Layouts: Preliminary sketches or diagrams showing how the space will be arranged, including the placement of furniture, fixtures, and other key elements.
  3. Color Schemes: Suggested palettes that set the tone for the design, ensuring harmony and creating the desired ambiance.
  4. Material & Finishes: Early selections or suggestions for materials (flooring, wall finishes, upholstery, etc.) that will be used in the space, often chosen to reflect the theme or concept.
  5. Furniture & Decor Ideas: Initial ideas for furniture styles and decor items that align with the design concept.
  6. Design Philosophy/Theme: A clear narrative or concept that drives the entire design. This could be something specific (e.g., minimalist, industrial, bohemian) or more abstract (e.g., nature-inspired or futuristic).
  7. 3D Visuals/Renderings: In some cases, a basic 3D Sketch rendering might be created to show an idea or volume in the space

What are Mood Boards?

Mood boards are an essential tool in the world of design, serving as a visual compilation of ideas, themes, and inspirations. A curated collections of images, textures, colours and materials allow designers to convey the overall mood, style and atmosphere of a project.

The Role of Mood Boards in Concept Design

Mood boards help clients visualize the proposed design direction and ensures that all stakeholders are aligned before detailed planning begins. They bridge the gap between abstract ideas and concrete plans, making them indispensable for effective spatial planning and design coherence. By providing a tangible representation of abstract concepts, mood boards help align the vision of clients and designers, ensuring that everyone is on the same page before the detailed design process begins.

Integrating Natural Elements in Concept Design

Every project at Interior Stories is inspired by the processes, patterns and rhythms of Nature. Concept design begins with a study into natural light, shade, climate, ventilation, water, wood, stone, plants & greenery.  Mood boards play a crucial role in this process, allowing us to explore and present how these elements can be seamlessly blended into the overall design. Whether it’s showcasing the use of natural wood finishes, incorporating indoor plants, or optimising window placements for maximum daylight, mood boards help visualise a cohesive and environmentally friendly design strategy.

Concept Design and Modern Italian Architecture

Modern Italian architecture is renowned for its innovative use of space, light, and materials, drawing inspiration from both traditional and contemporary influences. In concept design, mood boards are used to merge these influences, creating unique and personalized designs that reflect Italy’s rich architectural heritage. By illustrating the interplay of historical elements with modern aesthetics, mood boards help architects craft designs that are both timeless and cutting-edge. This approach ensures that each project not only meets functional requirements but also resonates with cultural and artistic significance, embodying the essence of Italian design.
