What types of projects do you take on?
Residential projects first: complete renovations of houses and apartments, as well as single-room kitchen or bathroom projects. We also design retail and hospitality spaces, such as boutiques and studios.
Do you only design, or also follow the works?
Both. We cover the whole life of a project, from concept to design, procurement and construction support. Your proposal itemises the services you need.
Will an interior designer increase the cost of my project?
A designer can help you avoid costly mistakes, prioritise spending, save time and make better use of the budget, so the investment often pays for itself.
What are the advantages of hiring an interior designer?
Access to trusted materials, craftsmen and suppliers, help with budget and planning, coordination between the professionals involved, and a result that is more functional and more coherent.
Do I need an architect or a geometra for my renovation?
It depends on the type and size of the work. When a building permit is required, a geometra or a local architect prepares and files the paperwork. We work alongside them and coordinate the process.
Which permits do I need to renovate in Italy?
It depends on the work. Minor works that do not alter the structure or the exterior usually need a CILA, structural or exterior changes a SCIA, and major changes or extensions a Permesso di Costruire. Requirements vary by region and municipality, so always check with your technician.
Are there tax incentives for renovations in Italy?
Italy offers tax deductions for renovation, energy efficiency and furnishing. Rules and percentages change often, so check current conditions with your accountant before you start.
Where does Interior Stories work?
The studio is in Milan and works across Italy, with a preference for projects within five hours of Milan. Projects in Europe and the UK are also considered case by case.
Can you work remotely?
Yes. We work on site and remotely. Design meetings are usually online until construction starts, when scheduled site visits are recommended.
I am an expat or I live abroad. Can you help me?
Yes. We welcome clients who have moved to Italy, retired here or own a holiday home while living abroad, and we guide them through materials, craftsmen and the building process in English or Italian.
How does the first consultation work?
The first consultation is free. We talk through your project by phone, video or on site, and then send you a formal proposal.
